human machine interface
with olivier brückner
the ’hmi’ (human machine interface) is a device to control and indicate errors of magnets within a tiny cockpit of excavators on junkyards. this project was in cooperation with the company gts to redesign this existing device. the concept is mainly about a clear and neatly arranged interface, so every excavator driver knows instantly what to do in case of a problem. the focus was set on the economical and the environmental production of the ’hmi’.
at the beginning, the existing device and every single function had to be analysed. all these insides could then be understood, explained, or even questioned. some functions could be combined as well as improved. during the development process, several models were built. Finally, the device was created twice. A design model showed the original shape, weight and handling. the actual functional model highlighted technical innovations and features.
